Absalom
16.2h Trakhener-cross gelding, born June 2003

Here's a young prospect with everything—flashy looks, lovely movement, a calm, intelligent, charming character, great feet, good bone, sound constitution. This easygoing fellow, a grandson of the gifted Trakhener Abdullah, is an exciting prospect for a professional or ambitious amateur, with remarkable balance, rhythm, and freedom of movement. Sol's natural movement will make him extremely competitive, and his willing mind and excellent balance will make him a pleasure to bring up through the levels.

Started slowly and correctly, Sol has been a model student, attentive and willing, and has never had any behavior, health, or soundness problems. He cross-ties, hot-shoes, and travels well. He is uncomplicated to ride, but best suited to a professional or a competent amateur with professional help due to his low mileage under saddle and his great potential.

Sol was started under saddle in April 2008. On his second time off the farm ever (his first time out was for an intro test at a summer schooling show, when he scored 64%), Sol went to his first recognized show, the VADA-CH/VADAF Twin Shows, the weekend of September 13-14. Not only was his behavior exemplary in the stall, on the grounds, in the warmup, and in the arena, but in training 2 he earned the highest score of the entire two-day show, with 71.786% from S judge Kem Barbosa: 8 on gaits and free walk, among others, and only one 6 in his entire test!

At his second recognized show, the BLMs/VADA Fall Competition in Lexington in October, Sol earned nearly 65% from S judge Debbie Diehl-Rodriguez on his first try at T4, despite miserable weather and a more high-key show environment. He was runner-up for the VADA-CH Year-End Awards (Recognized) at training level with an average score of 65.47 percent, even though he only competed in six tests and used five of these for his average.

Sol had an extremely successful first season at recognized first level in 2009, starting off the year at the SVDA Spring Fling in April with over 69% at First 3 and 67% at First 2 (despite an error of course), winning both classes. He went on to qualify for the open first-level GAIG regional championships, one of only five horses in Virginia to do so, earning his qualifying scores in his first test at two consecutive shows. He ranked fifth in the nation in the 2009 open first-level USDF All-Breed Awards, and Krister and Sol were first-level year-end champions for both VADACH (recognized) and VADAF (senior), and reserve VADA champion for the state.

Sol is solid in his second level work, with excellent simple changes, and schooling third. Look for him at second in the spring of 2010.
